Warmly celebrate

On October 15, 2022, at 10:08 a.m., the 140 t/h dry quenching coke EMC project undertaken by Changzhou Jiaohuan Engineering Co., Ltd. (a joint venture between Jiangsu Longye and Shaanxi Yuteng) was successfully commissioned!

Project Background

This project adopts the energy‑performance contracting model, with a total investment of RMB 177.51 million. Construction commenced on October 27, 2021, and is being undertaken by Changzhou Jiaohuan Engineering Co., Ltd., which is responsible for the project’s investment, construction, and production operations. The project has built a dry quenching facility capable of processing 140 tonnes of coke per hour. The main construction components include the dry quenching unit itself, the coke‑handling system, the dry‑quenching boiler, the compressed air and nitrogen station, the boiler feedwater pump station, the dust‑collection ground station, the integrated electrical room, the regional utility tunnel, as well as associated site‑layout transportation and telecommunications facilities.

The dry quenching system boasts advanced process technology and delivers significant environmental and energy‑saving benefits. When implemented in integrated steel plants, it enhances coke quality, reduces the coke‑to‑blast‑furnace charge ratio, and boosts blast furnace capacity, thereby lowering overall steel production costs. At the same time, it recovers thermal energy from hot coke to generate steam, yielding direct economic gains. From an energy‑efficiency standpoint, the dry quenching unit can recover heat from red coke to produce steam, saving 50,285 tonnes of standard coal annually—equivalent to a reduction of 49 kgce per tonne of coke—and delivering strong energy‑saving performance. In terms of environmental protection, constructing a dry quenching facility helps mitigate the release into the atmosphere of harmful substances such as phenols, cyanides, and particulate matter that are carried by water vapor during wet quenching. Moreover, by recovering the sensible heat of red coke and using the generated steam for industrial processes, the system replaces equivalent coal‑fired steam‑boiler plants, thereby reducing environmental pollution from boiler ash, combustion exhaust gases, and dust. Consequently, the dry quenching plant delivers substantial environmental benefits.

Since the commencement of this project, all members of the project team have conscientiously implemented the work directives issued by higher authorities and the local government, treating key construction milestones as unwavering objectives. They have overcome numerous challenges, including the pandemic, extreme cold, scorching heat, and limited site conditions, by proactively anticipating potential issues and meticulously scheduling construction activities. Furthermore, the entire project workforce has exemplified the “Jiaohuan” spirit—demonstrating resilience, tenacity, and an unwavering commitment to excellence—through meticulous planning, careful organization, and coordinated management. As a result, after 11 months of relentless effort, the dry quenching project was successfully commissioned, and all major construction milestones were completed on schedule.
